Okaloosa County law enforcement agencies and the Okaloosa County School District adopted the Handle with Care procedures stemming from local involvement with the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children. Handle with Care is a simple notification process. Law enforcement officers and first responders deal with situations where children are present at all hours of the day. All law enforcement officers identify children at a scene and make sure the children are safe. Handle with Care adds a notification to the school district to alert school officials of the traumatic event involving a child with a name and age only. The notification is confidential and does not contain any information about the incident.
